The kelp lying on Wickaninnish Beach, was brought up by a big storm, that is just passing off to the left in the painting.  The tangle had to be photographed and worked on in the studio for weeks before the painting was finished. The scene is of early morning, the sand still wet from the rains and waves. Sandra views this photo as a gift, due to being there at just the right moment to capture the image.
