Neck Point Park in Nanaimo offers multiple beach access and trails. This painting shows a kelp covered shoreline, and a reflection of the Rocky outcrop in the water.  The heron is possibly young as the feathers on the neck are not yet long and scraggly as in older birds. The clean lines and high contrast of the lights and darks make for a very interesting composition.  The water seems alive, showing the light pinks and blues of the sky, and the darkening of the ripples around the Heron’s feet.  He is stealthily wading and watching for small fish to swim past oblivious to someone taking his picture.
